Work at Home vs. Work from Home

What is the difference between work at home and work from home you may be asking yourself? And why does it matter? Well, depending on your personality, your schedule, your location, your type of business, and your family, it may make a big difference.

Working at home means the work you perform is done in your home. Working from home means the actual work you do is done at you clients location or a third-parties location.

If you are working at home, you must be aware of zoning regulations. For example if one is going to open a “Nail Salon”, doing manicures and pedicures, depending on the location, zoning could be an issue. In addition, licenses and inspections would be an issue.

If you are working at home and have a family and certain family member will be in the home while you are working you could be interrupted and distracted from your work. Now if you choose to work at home to be with your children you must run a tight ship if they do not go to school.

When you are at home working, you are isolated from the outside world. For some people it great, but some people need to be around other people. If you have the type of personality that needs interaction with others regularly, a work from home business would be ideal. Maybe a direct sales operation may be right for you

Of course, when you run your business from home you will be meeting with clients and customers. Some people love interacting with others, while still enjoying the convenience of setting their own schedule.

If you are working from home it means you will be leaving your home from time to time. This means leaving your child in the care of others if they do not go to school. However, if your children do go to school you could schedule your appointments to take place while they are in school.
